I’m a little bit sorry for the title, but as I was reading this passage my brain and my sense of humor came up with it. It’s a scary thing inside my head, sometimes!
Eph. 5:14-16: “for this reason it says ‘Wake up Sleeper, and arise from the dead, and The Christ will shine on you.’ Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise but as wise; redeeming the season, because the days are troublesome and wicked.”
People who follow Christ are leaders. We cannot unlink the two.
It’s like a famous person who announces they aren’t a role model. That’s a naive, imbecilic statement.
In the same vein, no Christian should nonchalantly shrug off people’s expectations of a Christian. We can’t excuse poor behavior by saying, “Well I’m not Jesus and I don’t walk on water,” and then proceed with our poor behavior or speech.
The Scriptures continually provoke us, encourage us and challenge us to live worthy of the calling of Jesus Christ. To the Christian, we know how to get to Heaven, but too many are throwing off all wisdom and soundness of thinking in our day to day walk. Nearly all of the content of the New Testament letters are letters to churches – those who are supposed to be captured and following Christ! If it was ok to live however we wanted, we would not see the strong language to flee sin after we have received the free gift of salvation.
We who follow Christ don’t wait for the yearly announcement of what the church’s program and emphasis is going to be. Every decade, every year, every season, every day – is a new day to dawn, to arise from slumber and to shine.
So shine bright!
Wake up completely and soak up the glory of the Son. Rise from any slumber brought by the last season, or day. Get help if you need it. Growl a little bit if you must – the Lion of Judah is not far away. Just a little while longer and we will know the fullness of His glory!! For today – fight like Heaven!
God bless you – may the love, grace and peace of Christ be with you.
