Greetings in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
I love music! I don’t know anyone that has ever said, “I hate music” or “I don’t listen to music”. I would say that anyone who has never listened to music or doesn’t listen to music is missing out on something great! Yes, I said, “great”. I have listened to music my entire life (60+ years) and I am thankful my parents raised me listening to all types of music. I was born in the 60’s so, needless to say, rock was and is, one of my favorites. There are so many types of genres of music and I’m sure different people like different kinds. Did you know that there are all types of Christian music?
There is hip-hop, rock, EDM (electronic dance music), and the list goes on and on. Did you also know that God created music and that we will be worshiping in Heaven?! When you hear the word “worship”, what do you think of? The old hymns in the red hymnal? Perhaps choirs in choir robes on stage? Well, those are both wonderful but let me share one of my favorite scriptures in God’s Word. It’s Psalm 150 Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse. Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flute. Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals. Everything that has breath shall praise the Lord. Praise the Lord! Now, you may not like the drums or the electric guitar.
Maybe you think it’s too loud, but God’s Word clearly states that we are to praise Him with music. My dearest friend loves music and has a heart for all things praise and worship. She chooses the songs that accompany our lessons because that is her gift. Sometimes we don’t necessarily like the same songs or music, but we love to worship and we do it with our whole hearts to the Lord. No matter what I am going through, mentally, physically, emotionally, etc, worship gets me to a different place.
My mind is focused on the music, on the words that give praise to my Savior, my body feels no pain at the time, and emotionally, I am all His. I’m thankful that I can even worship on my job. It makes everything better! I will challenge you the way our pastor challenges us. Listen to Christian music (whatever genre you prefer) for 30 days and see if you don’t keep listening to it even after the 30 days. It will change your life!
